How easy is it to install? Will I need to do any cutting?
This unit is very easy to install. You simply open up your factory tail light using a sharp knife scoring it around the edge, and replace the internal circuit board with our board. You connect the board to the control unit, and the control unit to the factory wiring using the connectors provided. It should take around 30 minutes to install.
I don't feel comfortable installing this myself - can't you do a core exchange?
As the manufacturer of the product, we do not perform installs, however we have arranged with a few companies and individuals who have the skill and materials available to quickly and professionally install these units for our customers. Please see below for their contact information.
Is it as bright as stock?
You have to be very careful when choosing lights for your vehicle. Automotive lights are rated for the correct shade of red and correct intensity. If your running lights are too bright, they can look like brake lights, and if your brake lights are too bright or too dim, it can be dangerous to you and other drivers. We use the SAME lights as the stock Yamaha unit, and the same number of lights. They are rated for automotive use, and our tail light has the same brightness and color as the factory light.
What makes your unit better than others?
Many R1 tail light kits replace some lights with orange lights. This means you LOSE some of your brake lights. Our kit uses ALL of your lights for brake and you can choose the pattern you like for your turn signals. Some other kits move the location of the factory lights or add additional lights. The factory R1 tail light housing has a special lense over the front that diffuses the light and makes the LED's inside function correctly as brake lights. Moving the LED's causes them not to correctly line up with the lense, and adding additional lights causes the light output not to be correctly pointed at the right part of the lense, making the signal lights unclear or fuzzy. Our unit looks TOTALLY FACTORY. It does not reduce or change your factory lights in ANY way, and since it's a replacement unit and not a modification of your factory board, you can ALWAYS go back to stock for any reason.
What if I just want the brake or turn effects - will this work for me?
YES! There is a switch on the unit to select which brake light pattern you like, and which turn signal pattern you like. One of the settings for BOTH is "stock". If you like one of the turn signal settings but want to keep your factory brake light, you CAN do that! If you like the brake light effects but you do not want to integrate your turn signals, you CAN do that too!
Is the unit as durable as the factory unit?
YES! The kit comes with the same seals as the factory unit does, so it is just as watertight as the factory unit. It is protected from voltage spikes and from heat, and is just as durable, if not more durable, than factory
